I noticed on my harmonic balancer that the rubber is bulging out a little.  Should I be concerned about this?

Yes! IT ain't gonna get any better, and it could cause major damage if it decides to detach completely.
Does it seems to wobble when running? That's a bad thing.
I'd suggest replacing it first chance ya get...

When I had some work done recently to my Vette I was advices that the harmonic balancer had been sleeved once and needed to be replaced. I guess sleeved is a way to repair a harmonic balancer but you are better off replacing it. So I got a new on put on.Big%20smile

I think the sleeve your mechanic was talking about was on the outside of the shaft where the timing case seal rubs on it .they get worn and the seal wears a slot in the shaft and it leaks, they put a shim on the shaft so the seal, seals again.if the rubber comes apart between the rings of the balancer itself,it causes all kindsa problems

A few weeks ago my mechanic checked the timing. It was so far off he couldn't see the line. What happened was the rubber sheared, but it was still holding on. Put a new balancer on and all was good again.

OK....I am going to replace it.  I get most of my parts from Ecklers, I get 20% off unless someone thinks I should get them else where?  Ecklers has a stock replacement for $69.

More questions:

1.  Besides the main bolt what else do I have to change while I am down there?

2.  Where can I find instructions?  When I restored the car I just pulled it off, don't remember having to use a puller.  I have an assembly manual.  I read something on the net about greasing something during installation?

3.  Will there be something else I will want to change out while I have it apart?  Restored the car in the early 90's, it has been awhile.  Should I replace the pulley bolts also?

4.  It looks like I will have to pull the fan or I maybe able to get it off from the underside?  Looks like a space between the front cross member and balancer?

Current list:

Harmonic balancer & bolt

All belts

Pulley bolts

Check other catalog prices, cause Eckler's will match any lower prices.

One of the site gurus should be able to set that up for you, as I did not do it myself.
