I installed a gear drive I bought off the internet, and was told after I installed it later, that it would come apart if you over reved it. Well I can tell you that it will come apart, as I missed a gear,  luckly it only broke a tooth off. So Im back to a chain. If you install one be careful they will come a part.

I ran a Pete Jackson Gear Drive in my Camaro a few years back and the only thing to come apart was 2nd gear out the bottom of the transmission at 7500 RPM

The gear drive SHOULD be more dependable, not worse.  That's the purpose, combined with greater cam precision due to less slop.  They are for high performance engines.   My guess is you got a defective or cheap set.

Their greatest disadvantage is the whine noise.

LOL...to my way of thinking the whine is a Major advantage...lol

Give me a little lifter noise combined with a little gear drive whine
and a little lumpy sound from the exhaust and you have a PERFECT CAR...

Actually none of my Corvettes have a gear drive... My 68 SS 396 Chevelle did...but I sold that car a few weeks ago and again being honest I miss it big time...BUT have plans on replacing it with a 2000 FRC if I can find one

I go along with Bob G. on this one. Kind of like hearing my gear drive when the the car is coming before I can even hear the headers! Worst drawback to me is trying to isolate other noises that are problems.

One of my goals was to get as far away from the sound of burning rice as I could get.

Mine's had a gear drive for about 7 years now, and I've hit the rev limiter a few times and almost always "winder up"
