Front shocks

Hi everyone,

I have my front end apart on my 71. I replaced the ball joints and now I'm looking for springs and shocks. Does anyone have any recommendations on shocks. I think I'm leaning towards the Bilstein Sports (B36-0222). Any input will be greatly appreciated.

For what it is worth ,when I bought my 78 ,a year and a half ago it had brand new Bilsteins on it.I dont like them,they ride to hard for my liking,I'm thinking of switching them out for Delco shocks.I've always had good luck with Delcos,they are made for vettes ,they came on it from the factory,I dont drive my car hard,or do any slolam racing,just want a smooth ride,monroes are good too,thats my opinion for what its worth.

Nothing wrong with your choice at all. You can also consider KYB, Monroe sensa-trac or Delco Performers...they're all roughly the same price. You can slso consider Edelbrocks IAS shocks...they are supposed to be outstanding, but are pricey at about $70-$80 each. Before I would buy those, I would want to hear from someone who had experienced them.

My '69 and '78 each have Delco shocks and I have absolutely no complaints.

Delco shocks on my '70...no complaints here either.

I use Monroes on my '75, they were a great improvement, but keep in mind that the old ones were shot. I like the lifetime warranty.

I put KYB GR2's on mine last spring to match the rate of my monospring in back. Love the ride now. Not sure how they handle with a steel spring though.

Thanks for the input everyone. I still didn't decide yet. I should add that my engine is a 350 with 430hp. I don't know if that matters much. Thanks again. If anyone else has re-done there front end please give me your advice.

I redid my suspension completely on my 72 coupe. I used poly bushings, 550 inch springs, front and rear sway bars, and Bilsten shocks all around. Yes, it rides rough, but it handles like I wanted it to. I like to drive it. I would not give up handling for an Impala ride. It depends what you want.

I Replaced all 4 shocks with KYB Gas Adjust Shocks and think that they are great ...
