Front coil springs

I have a 1976 yellow corvette which I am reworking. I
need to replace the front springs which were stock 300lb
springs. Generally all you can get today is a 507lb spring.
I was wondering if anybody had replaced the 300lb springs
with the 507lb springs. If you have done this, how much
stiffer, if any, was the ride? Thanks.

I have a yellow 76 too. Just rebuilt the front suspension and haven't had a chance to test drive, but I can share what I did with the springs for what it's worth. The stock springs are 293lbs, the f41 springs are 550lbs, I think they'd be insanely stiff. VBP (800-237-9991) sells a set of 460lb. springs that I installed. They were perfect for me as the ride height is right where I like it. They've got lots of cool stuff. You really should call them for a catalog. john

I just put in a set of Grand Touring coils in my 73 last weekend. They are 460lbs coils,brought my front up 1 1/2 inch, rides nice,handles great.I got mine at Corvette Central for 79.95

I used 550 inch pound springs on my 72, and they are stiff, but not too bad. It handles great, but I also added bilsten shocks and front and rear anti sway bars. I just took it to Houston (350 miles one way) and it was a great ride, even on rough roads.

I had 280lb springs on the front of my 68/427 and replaced them with 550lb. I also replaced the factory rubber bushings with polyureathane and a larger 1 and quarter inch diameter sway bar -- the difference made a stiffer ride but handling improved a bunch. Of course the same treatment was done to the rear for a complete package with after market offset trailing arms and a stiffer 360lb fiberglass spring on the rear and a 7/8 inch diameter sway bar. Go for it!

Did your car have a rear sway bar b4. If not how was the install?

If all that you can find are 507lb springs check Vette Brake and Products co. they sell 550lb and 460lb. I put the 550lb on my '78 and they made it pretty stiff but yielded a significant improvement in handling. They also lowered the front an inch (at least) which was surprising as I'm sure that OE 25 year old springs were already sagging. P.S. Camber wasn't affected too badly.

Just a question for everyone who's done it. How hard a job is it, and what should I be wary of? My 80 is going to need a set soon. Thanks.
