Jim , in my case it was the nut that cracked on a valve rocker , rebuild engine with 5000 miles.So i think it's more a factory fault.

It are World Castings heads .

Vette(s): 1971, warbonnet yellow, auto w/manual windows. Off-body restoration 8-10 years ago. All original except engine and transmission. Recently had seat belts completely restored and re-chromed. Bought off ebay Sept '05.
have you checked the windshield wiper fluid?
