Good Evening Gentleman,

Well, I stuck to my word and got Red Velvet completely reassembled this afternoon.  Looked great: Painted manifold, painted pulleys, painted brackets (alternator, smog pump and smog pump to manifold bracket), painted engine front, new valve covers, new upper rad hose, beautifully painted rebuilt water pump.  Reconnected battery, filled up with 2 bottles of 50/50 antifreeze...and it all poured out.  O&G Water Pump DID NOT tighten the 8 or whatever bolts on the back of the damned water pump and it leaked from the gasket worse than it did before!  You can see bubbles forming between the housing and the gasket.
Feeling sick.  It took a lot to get it all back together.  Now I have to disassemble everything and get the damned water pump off again.

Bummer Jason, I had that happen to me once on a SB chevy engine once. And only once. Angry Never happened again after that. They don't tell you about that one in a assembly manual, as suggested from our buddy we talked about the other day. Wink LOL

Thanks Sarge81!  Glad I'm no the only one that has happened to.  And no, that one was definitely not in the assembly manual Evil Smile

Luckily, my company gave us off for Columbus Day.  I was able to get the water pump off again and sure enough, TWO bolts on the back housing were not tightened completely.  You can see a gap.  I feel dumb for not checking the bolts, but then again, I pad to have it done correctly, so didn't even consider something being wrong.  Lesson learned!

Stay tuned...

I've been bit by that same crap before, too....Angry  I always check them now, and I shoulda mentioned it before, but as you said...you paid those guys to do it right. I would be on the fone givin them a piece o me mind right aboot now.  Censored

Before you put it back together(if you haven't already), it might be a good idea to remove the back plate and make SURE that gasket is good....it may be damaged or torn. Unhappy

As the saying goes, notice something, say something.  Could have saved me a ton of work.  Wacko

Adam's - One step ahead of that game.  Bought all new gaskets for the block x2 and for the housing.  Nice Felpro ones.  The block gaskets that came with the rebuild were paper.  I believe the housing gasket may be as well.

Trying to get this put back together today.  I need to ride again!  Thumbs Up

The good news out of all this, I am an expert with the front of that engine now!  LOL

The water pump set back is a bummer! It happens to all of us. On the same idea only mine was the carb. I spent all the money and them some to rebuild a quadrajet. They guy who rebuilt it came highly recommended, he suppose to be the best of the best and even wrote books on how to rebuild quadrajet. I sent it back three times and it still isn't right!!!

Hey Jason, back from vacation and reading about your WP adventures. Don't feel bad, I have to admit I did not check mine after rebuild, just put it in and got lucky. I'm adding that one to my list of "don't forgets". Hope it cooperates this next time round !!
