I used midgrade one or twice when I first bought my 77. It started pinging when I started opening her up, I have been using 93 octane eversince. Try using some carb cleaner and see what happens, maybe some gasoline additive. Good Luck, Gene

Local friends recommended replacing the distributor pickup & I'll replace the pickup this weekend..

I found it!!!
 
I replaces the condenser inside the distributor & my symptoms went away.
