An ignition module does not typically fail like that.
Look for a carb, fuel, intake problem.

thanks , I have been leaning towards a fuel problem also. and since the carb has been rebuilt and they placed it on their own engine and it ran for an hour i have ordered a fuel pump and will try that step first then if that doesn't do they trick they i will try some carb cleaner on the intake and see if there is a leak there will keep you posted and then put a picture when i am happy it is fully restored

did the smoke leak out?

As we all know, all electronic parts are smoke filled to make them work. When the smoke leaks out they don't work any more... |cussing|

It ran okay on their truck. That does not mean it is not the problem with your car. The two are set up differently. It may just be adjustments. Not all of them may be to the carb.
