Hi, Three things are needed to make an internal combustion engine run. Air, Fuel, and Spark! Sounds like you have two of them.

car was running fine previous day, garaged, I initially believed I flooded the carb while I was waiting on phone while car was off periodically pressing gas pedal. When I got off phone tried to start car engine turned over and caught then immediately died. Let it sit to dry out, took off air filter , problem persisted. waiting for a new gas filter to arrive by mail , I am assuming it is some fuel issue, electric still working ( still initially igniting gas) . I am thinking I might have pushed some sludge into carb, that is blocking fuel flow.

I think the two I have are air and spark. Thanks

Well, IF you have two, and IF you think it's flooded, pull the top off the air cleaner, if choke is closed, open it manually and put something in it to hold it wide open. Then get in the car, hold pedal to the floor, attempt to start it. It May clean itself out after it starts. Let it rev up a bit, but not to extreme. It may be smokey from extra fuel. OR, you could just leave the prop in the choke, and let it breath a bit before trying to start, so as to let the exrea fuel evaporate. Hopefully it will be O.K. after the process.

Try the filter next. Either in the carburetor inlet, or in line somewhere.
