Hi all:

I know the car has a replacement engine. Can any of you use a chart or whathaveyou to id this engine (specifictly year and model car it is from).

I seem to recall trying to look it up before, but got too confused.

I believe it to be a factory replacement 327.

On the positive side, it does have double hump heads and car is pre 1973 in CA, meaning no smog checks on it. Thanks in advance!

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
Well, I'm not good with the embossed system, but the double hump heads are the good ones. Possibly 275 HP, and possibly 202 valves.

Well heck, it’s supposed to be a 300 hp car. I’m hoping (not realistically) that it will be the 350 hp car, but my guess is 2 bolt main 327 with 300 hp.

I do think that it is an ‘older’ block that was built into an exchange engine.

It very well could be. There were a few made. I'm relatively sure in 66' they were 275.

It is a GM/Chevrolet replacement engine.
CE: Chevrolet Engine/Corporate Engineering
4: Year. Likely '64 in this case
N: Norwood California Assembly plant.
33: Batch, or sequence # for the run of engines built at that time.

XCB indicates 327 CI engine used as a replacement, NOT a factory installed engine.
S0320 indicates a Saginaw casting, built March 20th.

Thanks. I now (kinda) know what I’m dealing with.

BTW, this all started when I noticed that the left valve cover has no hole in it. The AIR system has been removed, so I guess a new valve cover is in my future so a PCV valve can be put in.

It already/still has the line that goes to air cleaner housing.

I guess this is a good explanation of idle problems due to open port in carb.

Is that the casting date on the back, right side of the engine B144. That would be the 14th of the month (B) of 1964. Maybe?
