Vette(s): 1981 dark metallic blue, dark doeskin leather interior, mirrored glass T Tops, 330hp/350ci GMPP crate engine, billeted aluminum serpentine system, Dewitts with dual spalls
I can vouch for doing the same dog on thing, timing it with the advance connected.  Had a dragster builder and Full Time ASE Mechanic with me installing new motor.  SO, I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!!!
 
But the best thing is you are now good to go!!!

Thanks, that 454 sure sounds a lot healthier than it did before the cam change considering the old cam had a well worn intake lobe ( almost round) and a bent pushrod... not to forget installed was a Q-jet that was in need of a rebuild... and a points setup that was well used
 
I think that my rebuilt Q-jet, new cam and HEI really woke that engine up from its long slumber.
