I am building a Gen V Big Block for my '78 Vette. The Gen V 454's have no access ports for the manual fuel pump.

Any recommendations on what brand of electric fuel pumps to use, and where to place them on the Vette?

Thanks!
Bill

Electric fuel pumps should be mounted as close to the gas tank as possible. They are much more efficient at pushing the fuel than pulling. I'm not familiar with the best brand or model to use. Maybe someone else here has some personal experience with them, but you can do some research on the web by checking the sites for Edelbrock, Holley and others. Check the websites for Summit Racing and Jegs...they'll have a selection with descriptions.

One thing about an electric fuel pump...you will have to shield it no matter where you mount it, or you'll hear it's rapping noise through your radio. Fiberglass has no natural radio frequency interference damping, that's why Vettes have the shielding over the distributor and plug wires. Years ago I owned a '63 Studebaker Avanti which is all fiberglass. When the mechanical fuel pump went bad, I tried an electric pump so the car was driveable until I got a replacement mechanical pump. I heard that rapping through the radio every time the electric pump cycled.
