It isn't too bad (from what I have read). Should take you about 2 hours after disconnecting 1/2 shafts, driveshaft, and spring end bolts. here is a link to an article with pictures. I plan on doing to this to mine in the near future too.

It's real easy. Remove the main and side shafts. Remove the strut rod bracket and spring. Place a floor jack under the differential, remove the bolt holding the front of the diff. to the frame, remove the two bolts holding the crossmember and lower the jack. I just did this on mine to replace the diff with a 4:11 one. It does take about 2 to 3 hours depending on rust and dirt but it was easy. The Haynes 63-82 manual shows you how to do it.
