Got my new intake on and I am putting the distributor back in. I marked on the firewall and a match on the distributor case. I also marked a rotor before and rotor after pulling. When going back in I lined up the case to the mark on the firewall and the rotor to the pull mark and she drops in but not all the way down. If I rotate the rotor a little to the right and drop her in she goes all the way down. However, the rotor points further to the right (finish location from initial mark) about half distance to the next plug terminal. I tried many times different combos of shifting either the base or rotor slightly, none would go all the way down. I am OK where it is at? adjust it back by rotating the distributor housing after installed? Is it correct that it can only go in one way where it will line up with the oil pump and drop down?

Use a long screw driver and turn the oil pump slightly until ou are able to drop the distributor all the way in with the rotor pointing to the mark. Just a slight turn is all it takes.

This happens alot. Once you are within 3/8" or so of seating, the drive gear on the cam and distributor are already engaged and you can tap the ignition  key lightly and she'll drop right on to the oil drive rod without fear of loosing time.
