Vette(s): 1968 convertible

Hello again.  You may know from another thread I am in the midst of replacing my rear differential yokes and all six universal joints in my 68 vette.  I have removed the half shafts, the two ridiculously difficult bolts the attach the differential cover to the cross frame cross member and all the bolts around the differential cover.  I have drained the case as well – how do I pull the cover off?  Seems like its stuck on pretty good – should it pull down or out towards the rear of the car and then down?  Can I tap on it or pry it apart without damaging anything?

Vette(s): 1969 daytona conv. all original 350 350 380 4 sp w/air..and hard top
I haven't done one of these yet but I have seen them apart..I have rebuilt many other diffs..just not this one..If it has never been apart before it does take a few hits with a plastic dead blow hammer to get it seperated..if it has been apart and the silicone gods have been there it will take a few more hits,,,just take your time and make sure all the bolts are out..I wouldn't pry on it to much.

You can put a fair amount of prying pressure on it.  It doesn't have pegs or anything to require moving in a certain direction.  You might try tapping a putty knife into the joint to break the seal, then prying apart.

I got it removed .... both yokes had worn away their snap rings -- only found one small peice so far.  Need to clean it all out -- any advice on that?

The puddy knife was the perfect trick !
