My tach quite after driving down to Rodneys yesterday..it does move a hair up and down..I removed the end from the distributor..should there be a machined piece on the end or not..and which way do I turn this to see if the cable is ok..don't want to damage the tach by spinning it the wrong way..and the dern speedo is stuck at 22mph..will go higher but not lower..I can handle that one ok..its just a pita to have both die out at the same time.

Hey, Rich, at least if you have to pull the dash you can do them both at once!

And shouldn't you get one of those right angle thingies to prevent cable damage?

Nah Barry..you only need that if you don't know how to put in the distributor..I think I can remove the cable from the tach and see if it turns..hopefully it didn't break in there!

Hi Rich, I had the tach on my '69 350/350 go out due to the brass drive gear in the distributor stripping. I replaced the gear and it soon went dead again. It turned out that the distributor shaft splined gear had one chipped tooth. I went with an electric SUN tach after that!

The tach cable end that goes into the dist should be pressed into a square...no attachments or anything...just cable. I'm kinna thinkin like Joe...it may be the driven gear, or the dist shaft is damaged.
The speedo being stuck, or not going lower than 22 is certainly a problem in the speedo head itself. Once it does start registering, is it correct, or is it off?
