Vette(s): 1968 Convertible 427 4 speed.
Can anyone decode the Engine Block Pad on the 427 in my 1968 Corvette. It reads CEOA58022. I would appreciate any information toward decoding this block.
Thanks,
Doug.

The 2 books I have don't mention any codes like that. All I show are casting date numbers. Is this stamped on the engine?

Hey, Doug. I should have some code info for you this evening. Also, what is the block casting number?

The letters and numbers CEOA58022 are on the Passenger side, front of the block, machined pad on the block below the head. The Casting number on the back of the Block, just above the Bellhouse is GM1 3963512 with a I cast in just below the number 3 in the Casting Number.
Thanks for your responses,

i dont know what it is but it is not in the right format for an original engine. maybe a warranty replacement.. or GM counter swap engine..
my 1969 427 has a code as such
TT0T3LM 19S733512
dont know what the TT0T3 means
but
LM means l-36/manual trans and the rest is VIN

chu; the LM indicates it's a 390 horse motor. I think TTO is for the Tonowanda engine plant.

The original block casting for a 1968 427 would be #3916321. It is remotely possible that the original could be either 3935439 or 3935440 - although there would have to be original paperwork to substantiate either as original.
Block # 3963512 was put into production in October 1968. It was the 427 block for '69 as well as the 454 block for '71 & '72.
As "el presidente cthulhu" has suggested, your engine is either a warranty replacement or counter swap. It IS a CORVETTE big block, just not a '68 original Corvette big block.
Although "CEO" looks like an engine code suffix, (1) it is in the wrong location - should be after the numbers, not before them, and (2) no Corvette or Camaro ever carried that code. The numbers should indicate a date, but they are out of order as well.
Still working on it.

Where on the engine itself is the identifing numbers that denote what engine size, year , horsepower it is.
I have been told that I have a 1969 427 copo motor and I would like to validate that fact.
