Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses. 2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
I'm considering having cruise control installed in my '74.  I suppose I have two options:

  • Aftermarket Audiovox (or other) Cruise Control
  • Purchase all of the components from a '77 or later Vette

Back in college, I had one of those aftermarket setups on my '76 Grand Prix and it worked great.  One of my thoughts on going this route is that I could possibly put the controls out of sight.

For the stock setup, I'm not sure I want a bulky turn signal arm and not sure how any engine changes between years might effect the setup

Thoughts?

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Marshall, The Cruise setup on my 79 has the same turn signal lever as the non-cruise cars. It does not have resume or coast functions, just set. you tap the brakes to turn it off. All the components are on the engine and inside the fender. You also have to change to two speedo cables (upper and lower). Mine seems to work ok, although I don't use it much. HTH.

Hi Marshall, I installed a Rostra electric cruise control last year. It has a small control that you mount and has on,off, set, resume. It works well and does improve mileage. I installed switches on brake and clutch. Call if you want more details.
