When I engage the cruise control, the accelerator floors itself and the car accelerates uncontrollably until I kill the engine. What's going on and how can I fix it?

Chances are the transducer(on the fenderwell, with the speed-o cables) is bad/stuck.
Does it not disengage when you step on the brake either?
It's possible there is a vacuum issue, either with the servo itself, or the vac. lines to it ...

I was thinking vacuum, also. Stepping on the brake doe not help. I had forgotten to mention this problem to my brother and loaned him the car to go to San Marcus, TX. After exiting I-35, he was at the intersection at the end of the ramp and tried to put on his turn signal and accidentally turned on the cruise. He shot out into the intersection and started doing donuts while trying to control the car. It was a miracle that he did not have an accident
