Can anyone check the info in my sig & let me know what they think would be a good advance on the timing? I'm about 16 degree now mechanical but it's going thru plugs. I'm also trying to finetune the Edel 750 doub pump so that may have something to do with it.

I am also running a Comp Cams camshaft. I installed their 268H Extreme cam. Comp Cams advised that I install it straight up (0 degrees timing chain location) and set the initial timing at 6 degrees BTDC. I also recurved the distributor timing to come in sooner. I have since moved the timing to 10 degrees BTDC. The engine seems to respond a little better at this setting. At 14 to 16 degrees BTDC detonation sets in, but my motor is running 10:1 compression. Consult Comp Cams for initial settings and increase the timing until power drops off.

What do you mean by "going thru plugs"...fouling them or melting them. Fouling them, go to hotter plug. And melting the tips off, you may want to go cooler plug.
I would also call Comp Cam (1-800-999-0853)
and ask one of their "techs" what initial and total timing specs they recommend for the "286 Comp Magnum" camshaft you have.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
The brand of plugs make a huge difference, due to different internal resistances. A set of Champions will blister in a VW. A set of Bosch will foul in a Chevrolet.

Well, part of the problem was that my float settings were way off. That being fixed, it's running much better. I can actually let off the clutch w/out having to hit the gas pedal. Just a matter of time to get it back to my shop to run the dyno, & play with spring settings & stuff. Thanx guys.
