I have looked through the posts and haven't seen anything on this subject so I'm probably the only person that can't figure it out.

I'm trying to reinstall the coil springs on a 69 conv. that I'm restoring frame off. I've tried a coil spring compressor and it won't (doesn't seem to) work well because the the angle of the coil towers are offset from the lower a-arms.

Can some one tell me what I'm overlooking or give me some insight as to how to install the coil springs correctly and safely.

Thanks

I just replaced the coil springs in my 68 and had the same problem, but i used the spring compressor to get them in then i used a crowbar to straighten them out after they were in.

Frank, If you want, I can move the posting of the coil springs over to C3 Parts For Sale/Wanted if you like.

Bill.

Thanks for the info. Gave the coil compressor and a jack one last chance last night and actually got one of the coils in place. Will do the other one this evening.

I have done many with the compressor and the prybar. The easiest way is to have the springs banded. Take them to a spring shop, they will compress them and wrap steel bands around all but the top and bottom coil. Put them in place, raise the control arm so the springs are touching at both ends, then cut the bands. Works great.
In 77 we had several C3's that came in to the dealer with the springs installed in the wrong position. They were rotated on the spring seat. As a result the spring bowed the wrong way and rubbed the frame, making a terrible noise. It was always the left spring. I did several of these under warranty before the customers ever saw the car.
