It might be Crude but if Your not going to replace the Springs You can Cut them with a Torch. Thats what Idid in the same Situation. Don't just Cut in the Middle to see wich way they Fly though. Cut it Close to one end, When it gets Red it will Sag and release Pressure You might do this a Time or Two till the Pressure is Gone. Then one Quik Cut and there out o there. Richard....

I had the same issue, I couldn't get the spring compressor to fit. I used a floor jack and a safety chain to remove the springs. It's a real pain without any weight on them just go slow and keep your head downWink I left the control arms on the frame and then popped the ball joints one at a time to help me ease them out I was already planning on replacing them. And if the spring decided to shoot out it would hopefully fly away from the carLOL I have a boatload of suspension parts coming from paragon and VB&P. I'll be looking for a proper spring compressor to put em back on next week.

Got to work on the front end today and I was getting along pretty good until I hit the coil springs. The internal spring compressor I rented from Shucks was just a bit too big. I'm going to check out napa and autozone tomorrow and see if I can't get a better one. I could get the spring compressed but the tool was in the way either on top or bottom and the spring wasn't very straight. If I get a good one I'll put up a picture.

Finally, got a 5/8 piece of all thread it fit perfectly through the shock mount hole on top and I cut the all-thread a little longer than the rented one. I used the non threaded hook of the rented spring compressor on the bottom with a nut worked perfectly. If you made a little plate for the bottom and used the shock mounts on the lower control arm that would be even better, especailly if you got powder coated springs, the hooks and multi instal attepmts buggered up mine.

yeh,
i rented an internal spring compressor from Advance Auto. that ended up being too long to fit on the inside. it also was to big to go thru the hole in the top of the frame.
the outer spring compressors i had would not fit either! they were to long also, hitting both a-frames!
so i just put a chain thru the coil spring, bolted it, then chained around the frame to  keep it from flying out.
put my floor jack under the lower a-arm just enough to contact it, removed the lower nut on the spindle ball joint, and slowly backed off the nut on the top spindle ball joint.
as soon as that cleared the threads, the frame popped up in the air!
(be sure you are not leaning over the frame when it goes !)
spindle fell right off, the spring hung on the chain, at which point i now used the outer compressors to compress the spring so i could get the chain off.
this method worked for me!
good luck to all of you that try it ! Smile
