There's a reason they're called "Zoom"! 
Actually, they just never seem to work right, or survive in a hot rod/drag car situations. I've seen too many of them fail...sometimes within a week. Must be that purdy purple paint they use...
I always felt the pressure plates were just made of too thin a material...lots of flexin goin on.
Just my opinion, so don't take it to the bank...

Ok, Thanks Joel.... i've had that clutch(Zoom) for about 4-5 years now... and at times been a bit rowdy with it too ;) ... had no problems as of yet... (but, i'll cross my fingers just in case)... :)

The clutch with the pads instead of one continous disc is known as the puck or pud type clutch. They are generally very agressive and used for high performance applications. They tend to be more difficult to operate smoothy. They like to bite and are harder go feather when applying.
Not that they are difficult, just not as easy. They are good for sudden accelleration and drag racing. But racing equipment is usually not good for long term durability. But when driven easily they can last. The light weight is just not a durable, but the do allow for more rapid revs.
I do like the centeline and LUK clutches. I think I prefer the LUK. Joel is on the money. But the way Jim's car is driven most of the time, it will probably last quite a while.

I have a RAM,clutch,it seems to be doing good, 4000 miles on it ,good holding power and not hard on the left leg,,good luck,,rd

For what it's worth, my mechanic, who is a drag racer, says stay away from Centerline for a street car. They will chatter. He likes Hayes, LUK, and Ram for street cars.
Question on pilot bearings, I'm thinking of replacing my bronze pilot bearing with a ballbearing type. Do they require any special way to install?

I've been running a CenterForce Dual Friction clutch in my vette for 7 years now with no problems. I also used the needle bearing type pilot bearing vs. the solid bronze bushing.
BTW, I noticed that you are from Grapevine, TX. I don't know if I ask you this before, but is bar/restaurant called Wilhoites still open?

It is indeed!! Alive and well...biker heaven around there.
Mama & I have eaten there several times over the years, as we go out "Antiquing" in Grapevine at least twice a year.

Why yes I have. (Back in '97) Very cool place. I got a kick out of the old Ford sitting up on the hoist.
There was a bar near my home named after that same place. The guy that owned the place used to frequent the Wilhoites in Grapevine years ago. It just went belly up this year due to a bad business partner.
I miss stopping at that little shop off of the Seymore Hwy. to get my beef jerky and summer sausage.
