Clutch Pedal

Gentlemen..... Had the Vette out yesterday everything going good until...................my clutch pedal broke! actually the part on the pedal that holds the clutch rod on to the pedal broke off .Now looking at my shop manual it seems that both the brake pedal and the clutch have to come out. I haven't taken a good look under there yet to see how these two parts come out , can anyone out there tell me what else might have to come off to gain access to getting these two parts off.

Man.......you've got a big job ahead of you!
The clutch pedal is also the "pivot" for the brake pedal. You need to take the steering column down, and take the brace/bracket that the pedals are hung from off. Major pita!
It's the only way you'll have enough room to pull the clutch pedal all the way through the bracket. If you don't unbolt the bracket, the pedal will hit on the kick panel/cowl area bfore it is all the way out of the bracket.

If you have the shop manual, it should have a diagram that shows how everything is assembled under there, and it gives you an idea of what all is attatched. Get ready to stand on your head for a while! Its more accessable if you take the driver's seat out, because you'll have a little more room to move around under the dash.

Thanks Joel for your input.... Another question!........When I drop my steering column I notice that there are two bolts holding the column on to the dash and two that hold the column where it goes through the firewall, by taking off the bolts /nuts on the dash side only and disconnecting what electrical connections that are in the way, will the streeing column just drop down? Is there are universal involved that allows the column to drop. I hope  I don't have to take the steering column all the way out . Say it isn't so.  I'm sure by taking the steering wheel off will help too.

Tom, it's gonna drop down some, but I'm not sure it'll drop far enough. You may have to disconnect the "rag-joint", on the steering box, to allow the column to drop enough. You just have to have enough room to pull the bracket down far enough to get the clutch pedal out, you don't have to remove the bracket from the car. If you're lucky, it will pull down enough. It's kinda a "let's see what happens" thing, unless you just bite the bullet and remove it all the way. I would disconnect the rag-joint, and the 'lectrical stuff, and see if that will allow the column to come down. At that point, tho, you could just go ahead and remove the column completely, as there would be nothing else holding it in, except the ign./reverse cable.

Pulling the Steering Column is not that bad. Had mine in and out twice already. I will be pulling it one last time to rebuild and detail after the car is painted.

If the clutch pedal from a 70 is the same as yours I have a pedal with a brand new pin in it. You can have the pedal for the cost of the UPS.

Pulling the dash out.. Now that is a royal PITA.

I think pulling the drivers side dash panel would make it alot easier, its a PITA but you can do all the work from the drivers seat.

I think it is easier if you take out the whole dash and the steering column.  Then you can sit in the drivers seat and see and reach everything.  Dash is not that difficult to remove.  Good luck; you are embarking on a task that is less than fun.
