Vette(s): 1976 White, black interior, all numbers match, Cragars, Headers, clean L48 engine.
I want to upgrade to a new higher performance cam for my 1976 350 L48 Vette.
What suggestion do you have for the lift and duration of the new cam.
I will use the stock heads and pistons.

Vette(s): 1970 built 454 coupe., M21, 336-1 rear, numbers matching . Approx. 550 hp/600 tq. #2 Condition . For Sale : $32,000 very firm . Have a full write up with closeup walk-around video for the serious minded only please.
Your best best is to run all the info. on your motor thru the Cam Manufacturers Tech  inquiry form. They will select a cam based on that plus  how much lope you can live with .  Going with a fairly aggressive hydraulic roller cam for my BB  got me an additional 40 hp approx.  But on BB's  you can go higher in lift and duration without noticing the lope so much  , unlike a small block.  Also, if you can swing the money, id go with better Heads for your motor  ;  I got an additional 80-100 hp from pitching the stock Heads and going with Edelbrocks OVal Port ALum Heads --- there was so much difference when you put your hand at the exhaust outlet as far as the air that was being pumped at idle.    Heads and a Cam should really turn  your L48 into a snappy little machine.

If you are going to look for improvements with a cam change I suggest you change the heads at the same time. Yes it will be more money but better in the long run.
I tried this with my 73 L-48 and the stronger valve springs that were needed caused the rocker arm suds to pull out of the heads. The studs are just pressed-in instead of threaded in.
My plan was to change the heads out later and it almost worked until a summer of driving caused the failure. Fortunately I was close to home and not on a road trip when it happened.
