For the life of me I can't locate the post from the member whose brakes failed because the caliper halves were not torqued tight enough. I'm sure someone posted the proper torque spec  for this on that thread, (Joel?) as it is nowhere to be found in the AIM or Shop Manual.  I'm in the middle of the rebuild and need the spec.  Anyone?  Making progress on my rear end refurbish (the car's not mine!).  Thanks.

Mario

130 ft. lbs on the bolts that hold the two halves of the calipers together. Be sure that the o-rings do not fall out of place, too. Thumbs Up

PS  I noticed it says dip the bolt in brake fluid, I used anti seize on the threads of the caliper half bolts and even on the bleeder screws - did I screw up?

It was I that learned the hard way. You can't go wrong using thread locking compound on the caliper halves, at least I remember how hard it was to get mine apart, but better be sure to use a box wrench to open those bleeders for the first time.

Aaah yes, but I couldn't find the thread, thanks Jimmy!

Naw..yer gud. They just want you to use a lubricant so you can get a accurate torque measurement. In this case, brake fluid as a lubricant is best, because you don't want any other oils possibly mixing with brake fluid....nor do you want the bolts to loosen because of a lubricant. Anti-seize is fine....thread locker might be overkill, but will work, too....and will be a major pita to disassemble next time!!  Thumbs Up

whew, thanks!  I was worried about the anti seize contaminating the brake fluid so i applied it carefully!

I posted on that a little while back so I may be the one you're looking for. The torque value for the bolts that join the calliper halves is 130 ft. pnds.

OOPs, I'm replying to an old thread and didn't read all the replys.
