Im gonna do this, go all out with a 383 stroker kit for my 1980 L-48. The question keeps coming up about the crank, either two piece seal or one piece seal for the crank. Don't know what would fit in place of the stock crank, and I don't know any other way to find out. Any info would help. Thanks

If the engine is out, just look at the back. If you can see the seal pressed in, it's a one piece. If not, it's a two piece. Also if the engine is in the car, you can drop the oil pan and rear main bearing cap and take a look. If the seal is in the cap, it's a two piece.
Get the code off of your engine and find a dealer with old manuals, and they can tell you which one it is without looking for anything.

If the engine is 1980 more than likely it is a two piece rear main. One piece rear main came in to play in the 1987 to 1988 engines. The difference is very noticeable between the two cranks. Good luck with your stroker.

Yah I was hoping to not have to drop anything out of the car to check on this before I order my parts. Wondering if any of you other vetteheads out there might have come across this at some point or another.

I had a one piece in my 88 T/A. All C3's should be two piece unless the engine has been changed out with a newer one. like Dan said it was mid 80's when they made the switch from all the engines i've seen anyway.
