Vette(s): 1971 Roadster 350/270 4spd, Suspension rebuilt with 550/360 springs. Engine rebuilt 327/350hp cam.
About 2 weekends ago, while getting off the highway, the Munice 4-spd in my 71 got bound up in 3rd. It is pretty jammed in there and won't come out. Car is going in to have some major mechanical fixes and upgrades done on it, but it would be nice to have the transmission working to some degree to get it to the shop. Well, I guess it does work as long as you don't need any gear, but 3rd.

Any way, the question is, has any one had any thing similar, and if so, how did you fix it?? Can I just take the shift rods off and use a little brute force and ignorance to get it back in to alignment, or is it just better to leave it in 3rd, and get it to the shop?

I am not looking to drop the trans out of the car, since the shop is going to be installing a new clutch, almost new hardened Super t-10 and a some-what more powerful crate engine. When I get the current trans back from the shop I can look into having it rebuilt or what ever...

Thanks
-Kevin

Evening K, you pretty much answered your own question, take the linkage rods off the transmission levers.and then you may be able to shift it into a lower gear. Your linkage rods may just be jammed or it also maybe in the shifter itself, but give it a try,

The most likely problem is that the trans is trying to be in 2 gears at once. Drop the rods and put all three arms in the vertical position. I don't remember if the shifter adjustment procedure is in the AIM or the Service Manual, but find it and you should be fine.
