My 76 makes a bottoming out noise occasionally when I encounter a dip in the road. I have replaced the rear spring but not the shocks. I would like to hear comments from the community on the suspect noise and some shock choices. I intend to replace all four shocks this winter. I am leaning towards a performance shock but as we all know ride improvements for the older cars are more than just a welcome feeling.

I really didn't want this to be a survey question. However being a computer novice I didn't realize what this actually was when I was prompted to fill in the blanks. I would still appreciate some feedback from those that could help identify the mystery noise or make some suggestions on shocks. Thanks!!!

The spring and shocks may not be the only things worn out.Place a jack under the spring attachment point,to unload the suspension, wiggle the wheels up and down, top to bottom, and side to side to see what is loose.
A place to start.

Thanks Steve,
I will give this a try. I replaced all of this stuff a few years back and had no problems. I want to replace the shocks because I am not satisfied with the Delco shock performance. I used a fiberglass spring when I made the 1st replacement. I thought this would be better but am now questioning if it is getting weak. I am getting ready to pull off the wheals to clean them (wire wheeels) and paint the calipers. This will be a good oppertunity to do what you suggested. I hope I can find the problem...

Replaced my shocks with Bilstein Gas shocks last year & the car handles much better all around. Also installed bigger sway bars (up 1 notch). My vette also bottomed out in the front sometimes, but not anymore.

Thanks, I found those shocks from Corvette America on sale the other day. (these were the gas filled) Unless you talk with other people you will never know. I appreciate the tips!
