Big Blocks

In Corvette Fever's December issue, on page 48 is an article about Big Blocks. Some interesting facts about Big Blocks:

Big Blocks weighs only 80 lbs more than the small block. (I think this is bare block -no heads-)

Rectangular-intake ports not always flow better than oval ports, depends on the cam used.

The 450 HP LS6 was not ever offered in the Corvette, it was a Chevelle offer only.

The weakest year for Big Blocks was 1974, but it still produced 310 gross HP.

The ZL1's came in only 2 Corvettes, but they came in 69 of 1969 Camaros.

Thanks for the info, like you said the bare block weights 80 lbs more than the small block and with heads its more like 125lbs. The LS6 offered for Corvette was sporting lower intake and had 425hp.

I saw one of the original ZL1 cars at Bloomington this year. What is interesting (I found out after the show) is that the car and its motor were seperated for a number of years. Somebody bought the car with no motor and then spent years tracking down the exact motor that came with the car (it was in a race boat). It took a lot of doing but now he has a truly unique (not to mention phenomanally valuable) C3.

I think I still have the story around if anyone is interested in the specifics.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to the other one??

Which one was it? Was it the Yellow one with the black stripe or the white one with the Black motion sticger stripe?
