I'm inclined to agree with Ben. Having driven my friends new Z06, I don't think you could build a "street driven" C3 that could come close to the performance of the Z06.

As for the 572, you're going to be required to run racing gas @ $5.72 per gallon and maybe get 6 or 7 MPG while the Z06 runs regular pump gas @ 30 MPG and will be turning a whopping 1500 RPM @ 60 MPH. Go figure. LOL

Tux, the guy with the LS1 is dreaming if he thinks he's gonna hang with the Z06. Rolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing

and it isnt just the speed, it is stopping, handling, and staying alive while trying to race a new z06
Thats vote!  But I think I'll have some for the Z06 soon. Atleast in a straight line anyway. You would be better off build a large cube SB. Something in the range of 472 with a tremec T56 and 4.10 gears. You should have a shot then in a straight line anyway. IMHO. Good luck with which ever you choose.
you have to watch the torque limit of the t-56 as well...

i think the "viper" t56 tops out at 650ft lbs

you cant just use any t-56, you'd have to build it up quite a bit.

This one may not beat the Z06, but I would bet it gets more looks.

Vette(s): 1976 coupe with a custom body and a 396 big block with nitrous installed. Runs great!!
Got to agree with Cthulhu. There are a lot of things needed to put in a 572. 1. Trans. A 572 will eat most clutches for lunch. A 4l80e might work as a automatic. or a built TH-400. 2.The weight will ask for better brakes and suspension upgrades.3. With all the torque a 572 makes, the rear end will be under tremendous stress. It will need to be upgraded a lot stronger than what it is now (I assume it is stock). The weak link for a performance C-3 is the rearend. An '80 rear is moreso than most. Might want to go to a pre '77rear (if it will fit)or even (might get some mail on this)a narrowed ford 9".We are talking 650 plus horsepower here folks!Snap,Boom,Bam!!!Check out Tomsdifferentials.com for the serious(and I do mean serious) build up. He has the all the upgrades you might want. Got some of his stuff in my IRS. Good luck.
