Great info from all of you C3ers'.
In this month's VETTE magazine there is an article on rocker arms. Good reading. Check it out.

Another suggestion for youse guys that seem to be having this problem keeping yer rockers rockin...ever hear of a stud girdle? Will definitely solve the problem of breaking the rocker arm studs.

Yes I saw them in a mag, might do it too. Just found out yesterday that the root of the problem was actually the lifters. The retaining clips all broke and came out! The one that was pushing on the rocker that broke, the clip was wedged in the lifter piston so it wouldn't pump oil up the push rod, thus the burnt look. The engine builder said they would completely redo the engine. Maybe the push rods were too short or something. I'll post a couple of pix of it.

Well after 2 months, my rebuilt 383 is back !!!
I had them install the Harland Sharp rockers and 7/16 th studs.
Yes the actual problem as admitted by the engine shop was the
roller tip rockers. The company that builds them has had several
break. Thanks for all the tips and advice !!!
Now I'm READY for Carson City !!!!!
