Hi team,

Looking to figure out the correct backspacing and tire size in going to a 16" TT II, equivalent sizing to the factory 15" rims with 255/60-15 tires.

Please let me know what combination worked on yours. If you have the part # for the rims, even better!!

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul

I am running 255/50-16's TT 2's and have a very slight rub on the right front tire when turning right. I am not at home right now so can't say for sure on back spacing. Will check tonight. I did order them from Tire Rack mounted and balanced.

Paul, I've got 17X8 TT2's and 255/50-17's.  I too have some rubbing only on left hand turns.   I've got 3 3/4" backspacing on my wheels, which seems fine.  You can check the data sheets on various tires on Tire Rack.com and see what the tire height would be on different sizes.  That's what I did when I got mine.

Sounds like if you want the 16's, Glen's setup is close to what you'll want.  Good luck.

Hey Paul
According Tire Rack it is -11mm offset

They look great by the way

I forgot to add the rubbing is between the tire and frame rail. I don't hear it or feel it, just I can see a small shinney spot when I pulled the wheel off.

Thanks loads guys! Looks like the 11MM offset is what I need.

Glen, does the tire hit the frame toward the front or the back of the wheel well?

Thanks again!

Paul

Vette(s):
SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
The 16" wheels I bought for "The Toy" had +55mm offset (6.614" backspacing) so I had to get spacers custom made to get them centered correctly.  The tires are 235/60-16 BFG TAs.  According to the specs I found on TireRack they were the closest to the F70-15 original size.

The only time there is a rub is when its at full right lock and I hit a bump - very slight rub on the back of the left front fender lip.  Here's a picture taken at BG in 2004 where you can see the paint rubbed away.

The easiest place for this is check out the tirerack.com.  They have a calculator for this.  I bought my T2s went to 16s also and its perfect.

Original ralley wheels are 15 x 8, and have four inch backspacing.  So obviously any aftermarket 8" wheel would be correctly centered with the same 4" backspacing.  For every inch wider, add a half inch of backspacing.

The comments from the guys with 3 3/4 " and a slight rub seem to prove the point.

You can't go wrong with those wheels!
