Several years ago, I had a tire let go on me rollin down the road. Left Mama & me sittin on the side of the road, with a classic car insurance tow service that refused to come out and help. I wound up crawlin under the car and putting the half flat spare on, and limpin down the road to the first exit. From there, I was able to air the tire up at a fuel station, and head to the nearest tire store. They had NO tires in stock that would fit the '74, but they had a set of Cooper Cobras at the warehouse, about 30 minutes away, and could send someone after them(I replaced all 4 at that same time). So that's what we got. I had to show the morons how to remove the blown tire out of the tire carrier, since they couldn't figure out how it worked. They also put a new tire on the spare tire rim, instead of on the rim that the blown tire was on. 😒 Idjits. Anyway, I have not had any issues with the Cobras so far. I would suspect the tires installed on the OP's car were perhaps a lil bit old when installed, damaged in shipment or storage, or possibly just defective from the git-go. I know of a lot of folks running the Cobras on many diffferent types of cars/trucks and had not heard of any horror stories about them, or I would have gone for something different.
