I have been rebuilding my 4 speed transmission, it's all together and I also took apart my Hurst C Plus shifter. The identification on the shifter is 3915403V. I reassembled it and can not get it into reverse, even after aligning the unit with the special round tool. I think I did something wrong in reassembling the small thin metal plates. Does anyone have an exploded view on what is the correct way to assemble all of this?

I've got a CP shifter here in the garage somewhere. If no-one can provide a pic, or a link to a pic, I'll be happy to dis-assemble this one for pics...
It may be this week-end before I can get to it, but I might be able to do it sooner.

Thanks, I'm off to Europe for a week, so take your time. I would appreciate it. there are different profiles on the thin sheet metal like spacers and I believe this is the issue.

I have that sheet, it helped me getting th elinkage right.
Where I need help is with the insides of the shifter. There are three thin stainless stell/spring steel plates in there. They have different profiles and I want to know the right assembly sequence.

I sent the shifted to Hurst to have them rebuild it.
Is it possible to remove and replace shifter with transmission installed?

Jack, yes you can without removal of the trans. 1. Remove shift cotrol lever knob, spring and "T" handle inside vehicle. 2. Remove console trim plate and seal assy. 3. Raise and support vehicle. 4. Disconnect control rods from shift levers. 5. Remove shift control to support bracket retaining bolts. 6. Remove support bracket to crossover retaining bolts. 7. Remove support assy. from vehicle, then pull down on the control assy. to remove from console boot and vehicle. (This was taken from a 1974 GM Service Manual)
