The Chassis Service Manual for a '71 says 3 3/4 pints.

Sounds aboot right to me. I've never actually measured it meself. I know it has always been just aboot 2 qts, but I just squirt it in until it barely runs out the fill hole.

This is from the service manager of a local Chevy dealership.
He used to be a service tech for all the Corvettes that came in for service.
He is very knowledgable about Vettes.
"Hi Dave,
The differential capacity is 4 pints of gear lube and 1 bottle (4 oz.)of friction modifier.
Steve"
The friction modifier is for the posi-traction. It is an extreme pressure lubrication additive.

Here's what I did last night. With rear(not mine) on the work bench,I added one qt. gear oil and one 7oz tube of posi oil. Then I added about 3/4 of a qt of the gear oil.I turned rear over into the same position it would be bolted into car and a slight amount of oil started to trikle out from plug.Fini!
