i'm getting ready to install my new motor and i have a question.
i'm planning on removing my exhaust manifolds and putting on shorty blockhugger headers.
my question is:
can i still use my original alternator bracket with the headers or do i need to get one of those chrome aftermarket brackets that i've seen at auto parts stores that are "made for headers"?
any thoughts?
thanks,
jeff

Does your Alt. bracket actually bolt to the exhaust manifold? I'm drawing a blank...it's early in da mornin yet...

that's what leads me to believe that it would work with no problems.
i'm just wondering now why they make those chrome aftermarket brackets for header use then.

I used my old brackets on a new motor and alum heads, the one issues I had was the mount holes on the front of the heads were a little off so my 100 amp Alt rides lower than stock. It works, but it's in the way of the power steering pump res cap and I don't like the amount of travel I have to adjust it. I had to get a little creative with the AC brackets but I made it work. I would say give it a shot, if they don't fit you can always buy aftermarket.
