Accusump??

Has anyone installed an Accusump on your engines and if so, what models did you choose and where did you mount them?

I hate to ask, but Accusump is a name brand for what?  Dry oil sump?

Accusump is a system that provides pressurized oil to the motor, for start-up lube, and in case of loss of oil pressure, such as cornering at 2gs! The engine oil pump keeps the system pressurized, and if the oil pressure in the engine drops below a certain point, the accusump will keep oil flowing. It is like a big accumulator, full of oil. "Accusump" is the brand name of the original maker. Make any sense?

I read somewhere  that the system causes problems with to much oil being put into engine.  The system holds around a extra quart, and the cannister does not get refilled in due time. Maybe the users were reving engines up during warm-up with the extra oil circulating in oil.

 Maybe they fixed it since, read that around a year ago.

It seemed like a good concept to me, only drive the car on weekends, would have liked to have the oil system presurized after sitting for a week/ or over winter

We had one on the Altered. Took it off. Just spun the engine over without the ignition on till we had oil pressure. Same thing the top fuel motors do. That's what I do on my Vette.

My brother inlaw installed one on his 95 firebird after destroying his new stroker engine running the silver state classic in Nevada.  He was running so many rpms that he basically pumped his oil pan dry because the oil was not returning quick enough for it to pickup oil in the pan.  This system would have saved his engine, but he rebuilt added the sump system and never had an issue there after.  I believe he was running a moroso unit.

Thats why we used to paint the inside of the block and top side of the heads with "Rustoum" back when to try to get the oil to move faster back to the pan.

Yeah, this system is not designed for a normal, street car/drag car set-up. It's mainly for circleburners/roadracers, that can't keep enough oil in the pan to keep the engine lubed, or that spend a lot of time at 2gs sideways! The SSC in Nevada would be a perfect use of it.

Once described, I'm very familiar with the setup.  Just had not heard that name.

Similar systems are used to keep turbochargers lubed and allow cooling when the engine is shut off to prevent oil burning in the hot turbo bearings.

Thanks to all for your replies.  My intent was for pressurizing the system during long downtimes.  I could wire in an ignition shhut-off switch and just crank the starter until pressure comes up.  That sounds like a more economical solution.
