I’m in the process of converting my 72 Vet’s transmission from the stock 400 to a 700R4.  My last ask is re-hanging my exhaust.

I’m looking for ideals for supporting the exhaust system in the transmission crossmember area.  I changed the crossmember to the G-Force bracket, I have stock exhaust manifolds and I’m attempting to re-use me old exhaust system which is 2 ½” pipes.

If you use the tailhousing for a Chevrolet Caprice, you can install your factory crossmember, and keep the stock hangers & brackets. The Caprice tailhousing puts the trans mount for the 700 in the exact same position as the original 400. Stock 700 trans mount bolts to the rear of the trans case. The Caprice(and Impalla SS) tailhousings have a boss that allows bolting the trans mount to the tailhousing, moving the mount back to within 1/4"(less in some cases) of the original 400 mount holes in the crossmember.

Thanks for the information.

I’m still evaluating, looking for options to stay with the G-Force support.
