I can't say that I am really disappionted with the shift linkage in my 81 as it doesn't show any signs of wearing but being a manual shift kinda guy I have always lusted after the advantages of a Hurst comp. plus so I got one. Haven't installed it yet. Professional sources tell me that I didn't need the linkage rods as long as mine weren't worn out, so I didn't buy any.Don't want the car to be down for too long ( this is California baby !)so I hoped to tap the forum for thier experiences to be sure I'll have all I need before I open it up. Sooooooo, anyone have info to the contrary?I'm all ears gang.

Better off getting the linkages for the Hurst shifter. They are slightly different and have better adjustment. No matter how "unworn" you think your 26 year old linkages are, they will have play and wear in them. Why not do the job properly and get the full advantages of your new shifter.
I have one and just need the mounting plate to fit it (the one I currently have is off a Saginaw box).

I kinda agree wid Chips...the Hurst linkage will work better than the stock linkage, and you'll have less problems trying to get it connected, and adjusted. The factory linkages can be a pita to get hooked up on the CP shifters.
Below is some shots of a Muncie w/Hurst shifter, and Hurst linkages.
Make sure you get the mounting plate for the trans with the shifter...gotta have it!

Excellent gentlemen !Now that's the kinda info I was looking for. I trust a fellow vette owners opinion above all. I'll take your advise. You saved me a lot of grief, because I'm sure I would not have been satisfied with the results. Thanks again guys. jimmy b.
