I have been looking into this crank conversion for my 79"  L82  350 cu in motor.
Based on the RSR compression ratio calculator it bumps up the ratio to 9.8 to 1 if I leave my current 76 cc heads. Based on the HP calculator for the new compression ratio I don't gain that much HP.
I take it to get to 460 you have to go to a taller cam lift and much smaller cc head?

Has anyone just changed the crank and shorter piston combo and if so what was your actual HP gain?

Thanks

I went with an 18cc dish piston with a 64cc combustion chamber which supposedly comes to 9.8:1. The block was also bored.030 . My heads have 210cc intake ports which are rather large for a street engine. The people I purchased my heads from said the larger cubic inch engine worked better with larger intake ports. I also installed a hyd roller cam, I felt that if the newer engines had them, there was a reason. I also had to get an intake that came close to matching the intake ports, so I got a performer rpm from Edelbrock. I top it off with a quadrajet. I'm not sure of the hp, but from talking to the guys at the tuners in the area, they all  guestimate the hp to be in the 425-450 range. My son has a2013 Corvette with an LS3 and I can take him in an 1/8 mile, in the 1/4 he takes me. The new LS's with the 7 speed trans keep pulling. To sum up what I'm saying, the 383 I have is like day and night in performance over the 350. I've had people looking all over my car for nitrous because people don't expect performance from a 79 with a quadrajet. The 383 is a torque monster also. With the big glass window and a full tank of gas the car has a lot of weight over the rear so it hooks up. I've written a lot of info here that you probably don't care about, but this was how I got to the hp range you are looking for and I love it. Also I purchased a cam that makes enough vacuum so all of my lights, brakes, and other vacuum acc. still work.
