How can i find out the year my 1980 vette motor is..?  Somebody before me put a 383 stroker motor in it.

There are several numbers on the engine.  The one you need is stamped on a pad on the passenger side just below the head.  It will contain both letters and numbers.  Hopefully the PO did not grind them off when the block was decked.   If you will post what you find we can decode them for you.  There is also a block cast number on the back on the drivers side.

I have the block casting #8970010    ill look for the other # ..Is it on the side or back..?

Look again.  Are you sure the number is not 3970010?  3970010 is a GM 350 casting used in Corvettes.
