my 1981 Red vette has chrome valve covers, The judge at the last Vette show suggested I try to replace them with the factory ones. Please let me know where to get them or ones that are accepted by the judges when I show my car. I am not sure if Ecklers are the correct ones . Thanks for your help. Also, I will need to replace the valve cover gaskets as well. Thanks for your help, Dino

Hi Dino,
I believe that any painted GM valve cover is what your car came with. Not real sure but I think they were the GM blue. You should be able to find them at any junk yard, and the paint at any auto parts store.
Good luck.

'81 valve covers are black, finned (polished on the top edges of the fins.) And are made of magnesium. I believe that the '82's had identical valve covers also. The repro's are most likely made from aluminium. But if they are done up the right way, I don't think that anyone will be able to tell the difference between magnesium and aluminium.
