I was told that my water pump might need to be replaced. It is giving off a little bit of a squeal when the car is running. How do I know if the pump is bad or if I really need to replace it? Thanks to all for your help!

If the pump itself is squealing (not just a belt) there is a good chance it is about to give up. Usually they will begin to leak when they quit but it may be too late to get home with it by then. If that thing looks original I would change it.

Usually the pump will start leaking out the weep hole,but not always,if it's starting to squeal it's time to replace it.don't wait till its too late,I have seen pumps let loose and break the shaft and put the fan through the radiater,and worse ,through the hood,it aint a pretty sight
