What is the correct version of water pump for the 1977 vette, L48 350. Is it suppose to be the short or long version.
Thanks for any insight on this.

I'mma thinkin long style...
Look at the rear of the pump, at the distance between the back cover of the pump, and the timing cover. If the pump is practically touching the timing cover, it is the "short" pump. If there is a bit of space in between them, it is the "long" pump.

I have a late built 76 and uses the short water pump. It is the corvette version which has the 3/4" dia pilot on the end for the fan clutch.

should be the short style... have both short on the 76 and the 78(and thats with a zz4 engine, that came with a long pump)... just not enough room between the pump and radiator....

Thanks for the responses guys. I pulled it as and it looks to be the short version.
I always thought mid 70's GM/Chevy motors used the long version but I guess I was wrong.
Have any of you switched to the electric style waterpumps and if so any noticable gains?
