I just purchased a '68 roadster. It still has it's original soft top, which is in very good condition other than the rear window. It's yellowed. Any way to remove the yellowing? Or at least make it more clear? Or will the top have to be replaced? It's a shame cause it has the proper stamping in the lower left corner with the correct date code.

I gave up after trying several products including Meguiers plastic cleaner and polish. It helped only a little. I gave in and got a new top. Worth every penny.

Ok. I wonder if the rear windows on soft tops can be replaced without replacing the whole top? The rest of the top is in great shape.

From what I understand, it is just as expensive.

Unless you have a totally original survivor that replacing it would devalue your car, you're better off replacing the entire top. (My .02)

Yep, that's what I've got. A totally original survivor '68 327/300 Roadster. I think everything down to the nuts and bolts is original, except for the carb.
How would a shop replace just the window?

So the toothpaste didn't scratch the window? What kind of toothpaste? Did you apply it with a toothbrush?

I used to take my boat top that has plastic windows....to a reapoltry shop and, they would do factory type stiching on all the seems. It looked very original. Not expensive either. |wavey|

An auto trim shop should be able to replace the rear plastic window. I don't know how the plastic attaches to the top, but more than likely the window is stitched in somehow. They will also have or can order the plastic. If you can't find any trim shops listed in your yellow pages, ask the manager of a large used car lot or dealership where they have their work done. You might also try a Google search for trim shops in your geographic area.

You might try Novus plastic polish http://www.noscratch.com/novus/ It works great on scratchs and faded windows, works great on all plastics, restored my tail lights from oxidized to mint condition.

I owned a Jeep Wrangler a few years back, the side window was cut by someone who wanted my CD's more than I did. My insurance company sent me to a shop that "melted" a new window in, no one I new could tell which one had been replaced.
