 Did 79 come with wood dash trim? If so is it rare?

Great to have you on board!  I don't think they did.  Does it feel like it has a tad bit of cushion to it?  If so, it is the applique you can add that came in different grains!

No.  Any woodlike trim after 76 is an owner installed kit.  The kits are available from almost all the aftermarket providers.
