Wiring Problems....?

Hello,
If anyone has any advise to my problem I would greatly appreciate it before I pull my hair out.

Here is the issue:  I rebuilt the motor, and then the wipers don't work...but they did before.  I replaced the wiper motor and wiper switch, no improvement.  I purchased a new wiring kit from the firewall out...found the missing connection to the starter (wire must have broke off with pressure washing) to allow the wiper motor to be a positive ground.  Still no wipers.

Here is the kicker, when I turn the engine off and take the key out, it keeps running unless the heater blower motor switch is off (the blower motor doesn't work either).  I then took out the consule and removed the blower motor switch, and the car turns off just fine....but still no wipers or blower.

I checked the power at the wiper motor, the single black wire has power.  I checked the cut off switch under the dash and it seems to operate.

Any Ideas?

Welcome, did you see the post on wiring diagrams?  I am not one of the experts here, we have many, and someone very soon is going to tackle this question does youe wiper door open all the way? that is an on going issue with my vette.  I believe I have that wiring diagram sent to me, if so I will try to forward to you, I sometimes have to go to Yakima for a 2 day meeting, will keep you posted, maybe we can have dinner.

Larry,

The wiper door will open all the way with the override switch.
I really appreciate the help.  If you are in Yakima, please let me know by contacting me via e-mail or private message.

I spent some time studying my 76 elect schematic and an earlier schematic in the Corvette manual. The black wire to the wiper motor is spliced into the black wire for the blower motor. This is a ground wire and from the schematic indicates it attaches to the starter some where. Here is what I think is going on. If you attached the black wire to the positive post on the starter solenoid then you are back feeding 12v through the blower motor. The voltage then travels along the positive wire for the blower motor (orange wire). Then to the blower switch. Travels through the blower switch out the brown wire to the fuse block. Then out the fuse block to the ignition switch and then out the ignition wire to the coil. So try and disconnect the black wire from the starter and see if it works.Thumbs%20Up

Also if you and Larry are getting together for dinner let me know and I will drive over. I am out in Moses Lake.

Good luck with your trouble shooting

I think Suncountry hit on the head!!  I made a similar mistake when I put the engine back in my 77.  I had that black ground wire on the positive post on the starter.  My wipers would not work and the turn signals worked even with the key off/out.  That ground wire was supposed to go to one of the transmission mounting bolts on that side.  It was one I didn't mark, thought it would be obviousWits%20End!!  Thing is I waited 2 years to put the engine back in!!  I can't remember what I did last week let alone 2 years ago.  I was looking an expoded view of that area in the assembly manual one evening and there it wasWink!!  The next day I took it off the starter and mounted it back on the trany mount and bingo everything back to normalThumbs%20Up!!

Hope this is it!!  Bad part is about 6 months later my wiper motor quit, guess I toasted it a bit Angry!!  Oh well, live and learn!!Big%20smile
Good luck!!

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for all your help and now everything works. Joel, the wiring schematic was a great help after I took some time to really look at it.

Suncountry and Karmel77 was correct about the wire by the starter, I moved it to a ground, just like on the schematic. The only problem was I fried the blower motor by putting positive to both sides and shorted the blower switch….leading to the run on problem. After replacing everything (I went ahead and replaced the wiper motor, wiper switch and wiper relay for good measure) and correctly wiring it, everything works great!

After taking the cernter console out to get to the relay, I have came to conclusion that whom ever did the engineering didn't plan on any working on the car...lol.

Thank you again,

Victor
