Howdy !
Has anyone overhauled their windshield wiper mechanism? I have a 75 Coupe where the wipers are noisy, and more importantly, the drrivers side arm will occaisionaly overtravel and the blade will catch on the outside of the windshield molding, what should I be looking at in terms of replacing, tweaking, tuning, bending, or lubing ?
Thanks !

I had this problem on my '76. I was told originally that the only solution was to replace the mechanism. Fortunately, that turns out not to always be necessary. Apparently there is a way to adjust the entire mechanism.
This resolved blade "chatter" as well as overswing (hitting/going over the windshield side pillars).
I wish I could be more helpful than that, but I didn't actually do the adjustments so I'm not sure HOW it's done, only that it CAN be done.

I confirm this. On my '74 the wipers also overrrun on the pillars and the mechanic fixed it. I was there, but for the life of me can't remember now what he did. As soon as I have my car back I will have a look and maybe the memory will "re-appear".
I somehow recall the adjustments being made on the bar linkages.
Hope this help to send you of on the right track.

If you look at the linkage bars where they attach to the piviot you wil see a screw on each side of the piviot. Loosen these screws and slide the piviot on the linkage, which adjust travel position. Tighten them back down. There may be one on each side link, or just one on the arm from the wiper motor. I don't remember for sure which you have. This is an easy adjustment. It will only take you a few minutes.
