Vette(s): 1969 convertible L71 427/435 4-speed black interior
That looks like your courtesy light delay switch. It turns your interior lights off 15-30 seconds after you close the doors. All of them I've seen before have been orange in color...that's either a replacement or Chevrolet made a change in them during production.
In cars I've seen it's mounted behind the dash...either behind the gauge cluster or behind the glovebox.

Look up under the dash and see if you see another one, orange, to the right side of the glove box. That is where the light delay should be on a 79, just hanging there. If it's there, maybe this one is a timer for an alarm? Aftermarket? Mike

Is it from the jack compartment behind the passenger seat? If so, I got one in my 71 but nothing plugged into it. My interior lights don't work properly either and I can't get my rear compartment light to come on at all.
Maybe I'm missing this lektrical doo-hickey?
